Web hosting & deployment

A managed website, a Node.js service and a database create different maintenance jobs. Ask who patches and restores each part, then use these guides for the custom-app decisions.

A VPS you operate

A VPS leaves OS updates, the application, monitoring and recovery with your team. Compare plans for one fixed Docker or Node.js workload and the same database location. Listed CPU and memory cannot tell you how long a rebuild or restore will take.

  • Name the owner of patches and alerts, then rehearse a restore to a fresh server.

App deployment and background jobs

A web request, scheduled task and long-running worker need different timeout and retry behavior. A function may suit a bounded job; a durable workflow or queue can carry state across retries; a VPS worker is yours to operate. Trace secrets, side effects and rollback before exposing the app to users.

  • List each job’s duration and retry side effects, then test one failed deployment.

PostgreSQL and recovery

Managed PostgreSQL shifts some maintenance to the provider; a database on your VPS leaves patches, backups and recovery with you. Neither choice removes the need to test a restored dataset and an app that reconnects. If connection demand calls for a pooler, check how its mode affects session behavior and prepared statements.

  • Restore a copy of the data and record who runs recovery when the app reconnects.
